K-pop titans BTS’ latest single “Butter” remained at the top spot of the Billboard Hot 100 for four consecutive weeks. It bested the three-week rule of "Dynamite," its first Billboard No. 1.
On Tuesday, Billboard released its weekly Hot 100 chart which highlighted “Butter” retaining its position at number one. The hit summer anthem has been sitting on top since its release on May 21, making BTS the only Asian act to spend four weeks at the chart’s highest rank. “Butter” is now BTS’ longest-running song at the Hot 100.
According to Billboard, BTS broke rock band Aerosmith’s record in 1998 as the only group to stay at number one for a month. The South Korean septet also beat their own record with the 2020 disco track, “Dynamite” which ruled for three weeks on the chart, running from September to October.
The Bangtan Boys showed their gratitude to fans this morning through Weverse, a fan-service platform, by replying to fans’ messages and posting selfies as ARMYs continue to set BTS apart by marking territories untouched by any other South Korean act.
Within a short period, “Butter” has already set a Guinness World Record a day after its release as the most viewed Youtube premiere, collecting a total of 108 million views in 24 hours, transcending their own record for “Dynamite” with 101 million views.
The single also marked the most streams on Spotify for the first 24 hours after its release, garnering a total of 11,042,335 global streams. BTS is also the most-streamed group in Spotify with a total of 16 billion streams, beating Coldplay and Imagine Dragons.
The famed global icon has broken countless records in the past years including the first Grammy nomination for a South Korean act and ranking number one at the Billboard Hot 100 for a Korean-language song with their single, “Life Goes On.”
