Instead of losing heart, 21-year-old singer-songwriter Claudia Barretto took the current adversity as a window of opportunity to learn more about herself and be one with her music.
With her upcoming single “Nothing To Do” featuring Curtismith, Claudia spoke about how she draws inspiration in creating music amid the pandemic.
Staying motivated and keeping one’s creativity flowing during these trying times is something that every artist struggles with according to Claudia. The situation made her realize how lucky and privileged she is and acknowledged that liberty by making the most out of her time.
“Because I felt that I was so privileged and lucky, I felt that the best thing I can do for myself is to make use of this time, to make something of it and to not despair about the situation,” she told Manila Standard Entertainment.
“I continued to listen to music, talk to people, read, and write. I would continue doing that even when inspiration wouldn’t strike. I think that kind of discipline really helps you to get to a place where you just know exactly what you’re supposed to do,” she added.
It is no surprise that the R&B singer’s enthusiasm remains unfazed by the situation as she has developed a penchant for music and writing ever since the young age of 10. She recalled fond memories of her as a child writing poems, journaling, and looking up to singer-songwriters like Taylor Swift.
“Growing up, it was a natural inclination to turn to music to express myself. Singing became what I wanted to pursue, ” she shared.
Her upcoming single “Nothing To Do” was produced by her brother-in-law, Xavi Panlilio with rapper Mito Fabie, famously known as Curtismith. Claudia revealed that it only took her and Mito less than ten minutes to write the whole song and two times to record it.
“It was very natural and organic, the way it [the song] came to life, ” Claudia said, describing the songwriting process all thrilled.
“The song is quite literally about having nothing to do but having a really special experience with a significant other. You could be doing completely nothing with someone but if it’s with the right person, it’s an experience,” she added, explaining the message of the track.
“Nothing To Do” is Claudia Barretto’s debut single under Viva Records and will be available on all music streaming platforms tomorrow, June 18.
