BLACKPINK reaches new milestones, teases fans with ‘4+1 Project’

BLACKPINK trended on Twitter in the Philippines on Tuesday morning following the announcement of “4+1 PROJECT,” in celebration of the group’s fifth anniversary and the third anniversary of its massive hit track “Ddu-Du Ddu-Du.”

Blackpink has confirmed that they are preparing for a project for their fifth anniversary on Aug. 8.

With the girl band’s fifth anniversary coming up, BLACKPINK hinted at an anniversary event that it has something big in store for Blinks.

BLACKPINK debuted on Aug. 8, 2016 under YG Entertainment. The group comprises four members, Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa. In the same year of its debut, Billboard named the band as one of the best new K-Pop groups.

BLACKPINK instantly garnered international recognition when the tracks “Boombayah” and “Whistle” topped the Billboard World Digital Song Sales chart. In 2016, “Whistle” won the best music video award at Mnet Asian Music Awards, and song of the year at the Gaon Chart Music Awards in 2017.

On this day in 2018, BLACKPINK dropped one of the most successful tracks “Ddu-Du Ddu-Du,” which became a viral hit among South Korean and international fans. On June 4, the music video for the track surpassed 1.6 billion views on YouTube making it one of the most viewed K-Pop music videos, next to PSY’s “Gangnam Style.”

With “Ddu-Du Ddu-Du,” BLACKPINK became the first K-Pop girl group to receive a certification from the Recording Industry Association of America. The track also debuted and peaked at number 55 at the Billboard Hot 100, breaking the record of Wonder Girls’ “Nobody.”

The massive hit track bagged several awards at both South Korean and international award shows. In 2018, it won the best dance video award at the MTV Video Music Awards Japan and best dance under the female category at the Melon Music Awards. In 2019, it won song of the year at the Gaon Chart Music Awards, best digital song at the Golden Disc Awards, and choice song under the group category at the Teen Choice Awards.
