Another first for Philippine basketball.
Gilas Pilipinas Captain and Cocolife Ambassador Kiefer Ravena became the first Filipino athlete to sign with the Jordan Brand.
With him in the roster are Zion Williamson, Jayson Tatum, Kia Nurse and Rui Hachimura.
“I still can’t believe that I’m part of the Jordan Brand Family. I’m very fortunate to have a great support system. My parents, friends, my teammates and the fans, in basketball that’s all you need,” Ravena wrote in a recent Instagram post
The decision to join the Jordan Brand comes as Kiefer enjoys his two-year ambassadorship for Cocolife.
Atty. Martin Loon, president of the largest Filipino-owned stock life insurance company and Ravena’s professor in Ateneo, shares a mentor-mentee relaIn an official statement, Ravena was welcomed as a part of the Jordan Brand Family.
“Basketball has a powerful influence on youth culture around the globe, and Kiefer can inspire future generations of ballers to make an impact in their hometowns and beyond. We are united by a shared love for the game, and Kiefer, a two-time UAAP MVP and champion represents the passion and love for basketball that you see all over the Philippines,” Atty. Loon said.
“He is very grounded, grew up in a closely knit family, who taught him great values as he remained humble and respectable regardless of status which reflects Cocolife’s values of reliability, excellence, teamwork, integrity and empathy, despite his superstar status,” he added.
The Cocolife top brass affirmed that Ravena is one of the hardest workers both on and off the court.
Son of former PBA star Ferdinand “Bong” Ravena, Kiefer was a former two-time UAAP champion for the Ateneo Blue Eagles and was the 2nd overall pick for the PBA in 2017. He has five gold medals after competing in the South East Asian (SEAGames ) from 2011 to 2019.
