Pasay City Mayor Imelda Rubiano has tested positive for coronavirus disease, she announced on her social media account Tuesday.
Rubiano said: “An employee of City Hall had tested positive and I was exposed along with other employees and required to undergo PCR (polymerase chain reaction) test.”
“I have received the result of my swab test on February 8, and it confirmed that I tested positive for the coronavirus,” she added.
Rubiano assured her constituents that she is in stable condition and in isolation.
She said all services of the city government would continue to be provided to her constituents and all programs and projects would continue to be implemented.
The local government has implemented the necessary health protocol, and contact tracing is now underway for those who might have directly interacted with the mayor.
While in isolation, Rubiano said she will still perform her duty using technology such as Zoom, Viber and the telephone, and through whatever means possible.
She instructed all department heads and offices, and all other officials of the city government to ensure that all the programs, projects, and services would not be affected by this development.
“The coronavirus does not choose who to infect. Let us not be complacent but continue to be careful and cautious. This likewise highlights the reality that we really need the vaccination, and our continuous prayers to our Almighty God,” Rubiano said.
She also asked “Please include me in your prayers. And I am thus reminding everyone to please exert all efforts to keep safe from the virus.”
As of Feb. 8, the city government recorded 7,137 confirmed cases of COVID-19. Of the number, 6,873 have recovered.
