Rody orders BIR to revamp ranks

President Rodrigo Duterte has ordered Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Commissioner Caesar Dulay to revamp the bureau’s personnel after naming several BIR officers facing dismissal over their alleged involvement in irregularities.

“I’d like to request Atty. Dulay (of the) BIR, to reshuffle his personnel. Give me the list. And I will review if it would promote the service of these people to the country,” the President said.

Duterte suggested that revenue officers who had gained a certain “reputation” should no longer be given any assignment and instead be assigned to the BIR commissioner’s office.

However, other personnel allegedly involved in any anomaly could be relieved from their posts.

“I request all directors in all departments if you doubt some personnel of shenanigans and do not want to be dragged into this, the directors, I would ask you to relieve that employee (sic) or -freeze them if we cannot stop them,” he said.

Duterte made the announcement in his public address Monday night in Davao City, where he read the names of several BIR personnel who have been dismissed from the service.

The President has named several government officials implicated in corruption allegations when he addressed the nation over state television.

“I won’t say (sic)their offense because you already know them. You already know when it involves the BIR. It’s no longer needed,” he said.

Earlier, Duterte ordered the justice department to probe corruption allegations in the entire government and prosecute those involved.
