With every new year comes a clean slate and for most of us, it’s an opportunity to have a fresh start.
For actor Richard Yap, he is welcoming the new year with a literally different environment and a new set of people to join him in his journey as an actor.
“Generally, I’ve been good. We’re so blessed that we are still alive and healthy. But of course, our businesses had suffered for a while especially during the lockdown. Slowly our businesses are recovering, so the past few months have been a bit easy for us,” Richard told Manila Standard Entertainment in a virtual interview.
Two weeks ago, the 53-year-old actor and entrepreneur signed a management contract with GMA Artist Center (GMAAC). It was a decision he had carefully considered.
Present during the contract signing were GMA big bosses Lilybeth G. Rasonable, Simoun Ferrer, and Joy Marcelo.
“It was a warm welcome. They made me feel so special. I’m actually quite overwhelmed as I never thought this would come about. Now that it’s finally here, I am just so happy and so thankful to become a part of the Kapuso family,” Richard, who popularized the character Sir Chief, admitted.
“GMA has been there for a long time. They’ve been doing a lot of shows for a long time. Of course, I would choose a more established network. That’s the main reason why I chose GMA,” he added.
With his fans already anticipating his return to the limelight, he promised the audience that they can expect a lot from him in his new home.
“In terms of work, I haven't been able to do much work because the industry also did slow down because of the pandemic. But with me joining GMA, I’m doing a movie with RitKen. I guess you can expect me to try and experiment into other genres other than the ones that I’ve done before,” Richard shared.
According to the actor, the movie is entitled My First, Your Last, and it’s a touching love story.
“I had a lot of fun working with them. They’re very professional. And this project helped me experience a different way of moviemaking,” he noted.
Richard added that he is eager to work with various Kapuso stars including Marian Rivera, Heart Evangelista, Solenn Heusaff, Andrea Torres, his good friend Jean Garcia, and Michael V.
“I’m excited to do a lot of things with the Kapuso network. They are opening numerous avenues and with that, we’re looking at exploring other genres. I'm looking forward to doing new shows, doing them with people that I haven’t had the chance to work with before,” he ended.
