One of the most anticipated offerings in this year’s Metro Manila Film Festival is The Boy Foretold By the Stars.
Based on the play staged by Tanghalang Ateneo’s Ang Hangal, the Filipino boy’s love drama will make us witnesses to that special journey of finding and meeting that one person given by God and supported by the forces of the Universe to be your companion that you will share true love’s kiss and spend your happily ever with.
Creative Minds Inc., composed of award-winning actress Jodi Sta. Maria, producers Omar Sortijas and Derick Cabrido, who is an accomplished motion picture director are well, are the trio con brio who put their faith, trust and green-lighted Dolly Dulu’s fresh cinematic take on this tale about a different kind of romance.
“The script itself is enough to produce the movie,” answers Cabrido when asked why he dared to produce the BL drama. “When I read the script, I fell in love with it, and I know that through the hands of its director Dolly Dulu he will be able to give justice to its story. Nakakakilig kasi ang kwento.”
On casting relative newbies Adrian Lindayag and Keann Johnson as leads, Cabrido explains: “I have no apprehension since they are perfect for their roled. Their personalities fit their characters, Luke and Dominic, perfectly.”
Since the most popular Filipino film festival is now online, the maverick producer shares his thoughts on the changed viewing platform: “This is the new normal. We miss watching the movie inside the theaters, but we have to sacrifice that for our viewers’ safety. But at the same time, we can’t stop making movies. There are so many stories to tell through cinema. Screening the film online is hard because it is a different platform or setup, but more than the hardships, I am bullish of the fact that it opens a lot of opportunities. It is exciting and frightening at the same time.”
Cabrido promises that The Boy Foretold By the Stars is destined to make hearts flutter: “Believing in both fate and faith is valid; this is what the movie is all about. We hope that through this film, we can spread the message of love this Christmas; how cliche it may sound, but love, whether it is the romantic or platonic kind, I believe is the best gift we can all receive now.”
The Boy Foretold By the Stars streams on upstream.ph starting Dec. 25. Tickets are currently on sale for Php 250.00 each.
