Tennis chief confident of resolving ban on PH

A top official of the Philippine Tennis Association remains confident that the International Tennis Federation’s two-year ban on the tennis body can be lifted and resolved soon.

PHILTA president Antonio Cablitas said this after the country’s governing body in tennis was slapped a two-year suspension by the ITF.

“I can solve this problem. I was determined to solve this when I assumed office,” said Cablitas on Zoom during the weekly Philippine Sportswriters Association Forum.

The suspension given on the PHILTA was handed down after it did not meet deadlines to submit reportorial requirements from the ITF.

The requirements were supposed to include plans for amending the constitution to increase memberships.

“I can handle this, I assure you. Just give us a chance to prove ourselves,” added Cablitas.

The ITF has also questioned the membership of the PHILTA.

It alleged that it has an “exclusive membership base” and this does not qualify them to be a national sporting federation.

PHILTA allegedly does not have regional representatives of various sports organizations, which be sporting clubs themselves.

Members of the PHILTA have been questioning Cablitas’ leadership since he was not originally a member of the board.

But Cablitas said he has been helping the PHILTA in a private capacity for many years.
