DITO hires nine ex-military officers

DITO Telecommunity, a joint venture of China Telecom and Davao-based businessman Dennis Uy, said it hired former high-ranking officials of the Armed Forces of the Philippines to allay fears over potential spying by Beijing.

DITO chief technology officer Rodolfo Santiago told reporters in a virtual briefing the company tapped the services of nine retired military officers to help build and protect its network nationwide. “If you’re going to scan the local cybersecurity industry, this is true even in other countries, those that have been with the armed forces are the best persons to be utilized for very, very critical cybersecurity requirements,” he said.
