Eat a bowl of salad a day

While it doesn’t make such claims of keeping doctors away, a bowl of salad a day is great for your health, experts say.

CHEW COLOR. Experts say a vegetable-rich diet may help lower cholesterol as well as risks of developing diseases. In photo is SaladStop!’s newest Annyeong Bowl made with romaine lettuce, baked mushroom, edamame, sweet corn, alfalfa sprouts, pumpkin quinoa patty, avocado, beetroot, and Korean chili vinaigrette.

According to registered nutritionists and dietitians, eating vegetable salads, which are usually high in fiber, not only helps a person lose weight (by enhancing satiety especially when they eat a low-calorie food first), but also helps lower cholesterol levels and prevent constipation.

Nutrient-rich plant foods also contribute to overall health.

Several research studies also point to salad’s contribution to lowering risks of many diseases, including cancer. A recent study from the National Cancer Institute reveals those with fruit- and vegetable-rich diets may have lower risks of developing cancers of the head and neck.

Salads pack in health benefits and flavors, but some people’s issue with salad is in its preparation. “It’s easier to open a bag of chips than to slice and dice vegetables and toss them in a bowl,” some snack lovers would say. Keeping the ingredients fresh in the fridge for a couple of days is another challenge.

Food chain SaladStop! helps make eating salad part of daily habit easier by offering a subscription-based meal plan service.

Customers can now avail of the brand’s freshly-prepared salads, grain bowls, or snacks with vegetarian, gluten-free, and protein-packed options which will be coming from SaladStop!’s newly opened cloud kitchen in Chino Roces (UPRC 1 Building, Chino Roces Ave., Makati).

The meal plan subscription includes new salads (from left) Homemade Quinoa Patty Salad, The Refresher, High Protein Salad, and High Protein Vegetarian Salad.
