CHED execs to discuss guidelines for athletes

Proposed guidelines that will pave the way for the training of student-athletes will be discussed by the Commission on Higher Education this week.

CHED chairman Prospero “Popoy” de Vera said this after he called for a Tuesday meeting on how to achieve this.

“It will be discussed in commission en banc meeting this Tuesday,” said de Vera in an interview with the Manila Standard.

Under the proposal submitted by a technical working group, these activities should take place under a bubble, to be organized by each member school of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines and National Collegiate Athletic Association inside their respective campuses.

For a bubble to be put up, each varsity team, not just the school, is required to first submit a Collegiate Training Activities’ Certificate of Compliance.

And it has to have the recommendations of both the school’s athletic director and school president.

A draft of this plan was sent to the CHED last Thursday.

A joint technical working group composed of officials of the University Athletic Association and the National Collegiate Athletic Association recently met with the Joint Administrative Order group to come up with the details of the plan. Peter Atencio
