CHED studies training protocols

Training of student-athletes will soon happen, and it could take place under a bubble that each school, university and college can put up inside their respective campuses.

A draft of this plan is now in the hands of the Commission on Higher Education since Thursday.

A joint technical working group composed of officials of the University Athletic Association and the National Collegiate Athletic Association has joined forces with the Joint Administrative Order group in coming up with the details of the plan.

The technical working group believes student-athletes should be “physically separated from the general population” when they go into training.

A go-signal by the Interagency Task Force for the Management of Infectious Diseases is now being awaited.

Officials of the JAO said contact sports and activities for non-professional sports are not allowed at any time.

This restriction remains until an effective vaccine and an established standard of care has been put in place.

Last month, the TWG was formed with University of the Philippines College of Human Kinetics Dean Francisco Diaz leading the way for the UAAP.

The TWG was been formed to draft recommendations that will make it possible for varsity players from different disciplines to resume training.

A bubble with protocols meant for competition is still being worked out.
