Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente said he issued the order for Choi’s arrest at the request of South Korean authorities.

According to Immigration’s FSU Chief Bobby Raquepo, Choi was the subject of an Interpol red notice issued on Aug. 11, two months after a district court in Busan issued a warrant for his arrest.

Choi was reportedly charged with fraud before the court for allegedly operating several illegal gambling sites on the Internet and soliciting customers from whom he received large sums of money.

South Korean authorities said Choi set up the unauthorized private online gambling sites in the Philippines in violation of his country’s national sports promotion act.

Choi is now under the temporary custody of the CIDG pending the result of his COVID-19 swab test.
