In the world of television, people are drawn to forbidden relationships, specifically to the drama and the kind of “love” people manifest in this context. We always wait for the twists and turns, for how long the affair would last, and who would discover the affair, and in what kind of situation it would be uncovered. And ultimately, we wait for the confrontation scene that makes forbidden love drama memorable.
Tonight on GMA Network, another mini-series under I Can See You drama anthology paints a realistic picture of marriage. Starring Lovi Poe, Winwyn Marquez, and Tom Rodriguez, the mini-series revolves around a couple whose marriage starts to dwindle when their opposing goals in life get the best of them.
Titled High-Rise Lovers, the story follows the story of married couple Samantha (Lovi) and Luis (Tom). After moving into a new condominium unit, Samantha continues to strive for a big promotion at work while Luis, an unemployed contractor, is forced to accept a renovation job for another occupant – the mysterious and sultry Ysabel (Winwyn).
“My character here is a career woman but she gets into a dilemma choosing between saving her relationship and getting the career that she wants,” Lovi told Manila Standard Entertainment in a virtual interview.
“I think, that’s one thing that everyone can relate to because I think a lot of people are having the trouble of trying to balance or juggle both. But what’s really interesting about my character is the choice she’s going to make in the end. That’s something people should watch out for,” she added.
Lovi also shares her trust in the network and her excitement to return to work prompted her to take on the project, “Even before the pandemic, safety always comes first when it comes to our production. It wasn’t a hard decision for me. I’m just really excited to see my friends and work with the whole team again.”
Winwyn, who seals her acting comeback with this project, reveals what she finds most interesting about her character, “Ysabel is very free-spirited and she doesn’t like commitments. She just wants to have fun and ang iniisip niya ‘yung sarili niya. I think a lot of young viewers can relate to her character. But deep inside we all just want to find love.”
Meanwhile, Tom expresses how small-scale projects such as their weekly series can be of help in the entertainment industry during this pandemic.
“Natututo kaming gumapang ulit bago maglakad. It’s really a nice training wheel para we can get used to the swing of things again. So if ever they’re going to attempt to do big projects from the ground up, mas kaya siyang ma-accomplish. For me these small-scale projects, they’re a nice training ground,” the actor related.
Also starring in this third installment of the I Can See You drama anthology are Teresa Loyzaga and Kenneth “Tetay” Ocampo.
In observance of anti-COVID-19 protocols alongside the network’s precautionary measures, the cast and crew of the show underwent RT-PCR tests, lock-in tapings, and strictly practiced government-mandated safety and health protocols on the set.
I Can See You: High-Rise Lovers, which airs weeknights right after Encantadia on GMA-7, is directed by Monti Parungao.
