A policeman was killed by at least four robbers who stole some P2 million worth of cash and belongings from gold traders in Sta. Cruz, Manila this weekend, a Manila Police District (MPD) official said on Monday.
Sketchy reports said the victim. Executive Master Sergeant Roel Candido, was driving a scooter and escorting the jewelry store owners who were on board a car when they were shot by the robbers.
Two of the robbers were reportedly wearing fatigue uniform of the Philippine National Police.
“He was there in the wrong time, in the wrong place,” said Manila police chief Brig. Gen. Rolando Miranda.
Investigators will talk to four other victims who are recovering from their injuries at the hospital and will check surveillance videos to identify the robbers, Miranda said.
Jocilyn Candido, wife of the victim, asked for justice.
The police formed a special investigation task group to handle the case.
