The Quezon City government and a multisectoral organization have partnered to strengthen the city’s fight against the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
Mayor Joy Belmonte on Thursday led the signing of a memorandum of agreement with key officials of Kilusang Kontra Covid (KilKoVid) Alliance, headed by Dr. Tony Leachon as chairman and lawyer Dot Gancayco as president.
KilKoVid is a coalition of concerned citizens and organizations aiming to complement and supplement the COVID-19 plans and strategies of the city government.
“We need all the help that we can get in the fight against COVID-19. The assistance offered by the alliance is very much welcome as it will help beef up the current efforts of the local government,” Belmonte said.
“With our teamwork, I trust that little by little we can succeed in the fight against the pandemic,” she added.
The agreement entails a united and concerted action under a strategy “To Teach, To Heal, and To Lead” with an aim toward achieving “Kaligtasan, Kalusugan at Kabuhayan” or 3Ks.
“In this time of crisis, unprecedented in our history, the civil society should step up to the plate to help the government in resolving this huge problem to give hope, courage and inspiration to our people,” Leachon said in a statement.
Under the agreement, KilKoVid will help the local government in its mission of reducing the COVID-19 cases by engaging the private sector as partners in the endeavor.
The private sector is also expected to assist residents so they can have a means of livelihood during the pandemic.
Each alliance partner will aim to contribute their resources to achieve the 3Ks in the areas of education, fund mobilization, logistics and livelihood, among others.
Leachon said he is optimistic the partnership with the city government would provide the much-needed sparks and ignite a vibrant movement that would help constituents improve awareness in fighting the virus.
“Our role is to teach, to heal and to lead with Mayor Joy Belmonte and other generous partners in this advocacy,” he said.
Alliance partners of KilKoVid include the Liga ng mga Barangay sa Pilipinas-Quezon City Chapter (President Alfredo Roxas), Rotary International District 3780 (Governor Johnny Yu), UP Women Lawyer’s Circle Inc. (President Arlene Ureta), Philippine Academy of Family Physicians-National (President Marivic Cruz), Philippine Academy of Family Physicians-Quezon City Chapter (President Flora Marin), Philippine College of Physicians-Quezon City Chapter (President Melvin Hacutina), Urban Green Communes (President Juan Carlo Tejano) and Celebrity Sports Club Inc. (General Manager Arturo Tibay).
The alliance also has the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry-QC, Quezon City Planning and Development Office, and Association of Barangay Captains as guest partners.
