Brent Paraiso, the second cager to leave University of Santo Tomas, expressed his fears of the team getting sanctioned and suspended as the big reason why he left the school.

The 22-year-old Paraiso talked about his decision in a statement to the University paper, Varsitarian, a few days before the tripartite group of the Philippine Sports Commission, the Commission on Higher Education, and the Games and Amusement Board resumes its inquiry on the Growling Tigers.

“‘Pag nag-stay ako, tapos na-suspend ang UST, sayang ang last playing year ko. Kung ‘di na-suspend, mas okay, pero wala namang kasiguraduhan,”said the 6’2” Paraiso following his departure from the team last Friday.

Paraiso said he made up his mind to pack his bags after Growling Tigers’ coach Aldin Ayo gave him no assurances that the team will not be sanctioned following their alleged training bubble in Capuy, Sorsogon.

CJ Cansino was the first Tiger to leave, transferring to the University of the Philippines.

No decisions will be handed down when the internal probe into the Growling Tigers’ training activities in Sorsogon resumes today, with the CHED expected to have a big say in the online proceedings.

The tripartite body will just continue looking into health and safety protocol violations that may have taken place during the training camp.

UST officials, through the Institute of Physical Education and Athletics, have done an internal investigation and forwarded their findings to the University Athletic Association of the Philippines.

A member of UST’s fact-finding committee will submit the report and attend a meeting of the tripartite group.

Officials of National University have also been invited to the meeting, over allegations that the women’s volleyball team also went into a training bubble in Calamba, Laguna recently. Peter Atencio

Fr. Ermito de Sagon, O.P., the new head of the IPEA following the resignation of Fr. Jannel Abogado, will be representing the school in the online conference on Sept. 1.
