President Rodrigo Duterte "will finish and live beyond his term” as he is in good health, his former aide said Sunday.
Senator Christopher Go said the Filipinos need not worry about the President as he dismissed speculation about Duterte’s health following his remarks on his Barrett’s esophagus.
“We have been together for more than 22 years. I have been hearing about that Barrett’s esophagus several times," Go said and added it was not that serious.
He said Duterte was physically fit and in good shape to continue leading the Philippines.
He criticized the purveyors of fake news who were spreading bad things about Duterte’s health.
"That's not true as the President is still capable of leading the country," Go said.
Earlier, Duterte said he was committed to leading the Filipinos and improving their lives.
Duterte is 75 years old, but Go said he had been doing everything to protect every Filipino.
He said Duterte’s remarks on the supposed advice to him by his doctors was a reminder to all Filipinos to be mindful of their own health, especially now that the country was suffering from the COVID-19 pandemic.
He asked the Filipino people to pray for the safety of the President as he was old and vulnerable to COVID-19.
He said they had to protect the President because the country could not afford to lose a good leader like Duterte.
Duterte is in Davao City, but Go says he will be back in Manila eventually to attend a virtual conference with the king of Jordan to discuss the Philippines’ fight against COVID-19.
”He will be back in Manila in the next few days and he will attend to many things,” Go said.
He says the President will have a virtual conference after being invited by the king of Jordan about the fight against the pandemic.
