Tacloban City—A total of 1,202 wanted persons were arrested in various police operations in Eastern Visayas from March 18 to August 23, according to the Police Regional Office (PRO)-8 based in Palo, Leyte.
“This has been a noteworthy accomplishment for all of us in this PRO. The police personnel regionwide have exerted their best effort in chasing these offenders, despite the challenges posed by the coronavirus pandemic,” said Brig. Gen. Bernabe Balba, police regional director.
“I am truly proud of our Waraynon warriors for their dedication in the name of public service. I am commending everyone for these accomplishments under my watch,” said Balba, who assumed his post last March.
Out of the 1, 202 arrested persons, 145 are “most wanted” and 1,057 are other wanted persons.
Among the top crimes committed in the region are murder, rape, frustrated murder, attempted murder, statutory rape, and violation of Republic Act 9165, or Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
The Leyte Police Provincial Office (LPPO) posted the highest number of arrests with 380 wanted persons, followed by the Eastern Samar Police Provincial Office (ESPPO) with 204.
Northern Samar Police Provincial Office (NSPPO) nabbed 158; Samar Police Provincial Office (SPPO), 137; Southern Leyte Police Provincial Office (SLPPO), 119; Biliran Police Provincial Office (BPPO), 113; Tacloban City Police Office (TCPO), 53; and Ormoc City Police Office (OCPO), 38.
