Coach Aldin Ayo felt that he was not on the same page with former University of Santo Tomas cager Crispin “CJ” Cansino when they talked about the latter’s condition while the team was in a training camp in Capuy, Sorsogon.

In the end, he decided to let go of the 21-year-old Cansino, who eventually transferred to another varsity squad, the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons.

“We have varying approaches and adaptations to cope with the crisis. And as we have differences in strokes for different folks, we labor to respect such differences, and allow generously for people to to grow in the best way they could in whatever situation best fitting them,” said Ayo in a statement he released online following Cansino’s departure from the team.

Cansino explained to Ayo he was suffering anxiety attacks during his days in quarantine over the last month. And this is what compelled the former UST skipper to leave his practices in Sorsogon and go home.

Ayo felt that his discussions with Cansino have brought out differences in how to approach present situation, which the UST mentor did not elaborate.

“Such is what happened to the case of CJ Cansino and the UST basketball team. The circumstances in life today have brought out marked differences between my orientation in life and the fundamental options of our player CJ Cansino,” added Ayo.

When he was asked to leave the team, Cansino said he thought of staying on and continuing his studies at the UST.

But uncertainties of whether he will still be able to play after sitting it out for maybe a year, made Cansino choose to leave.

Cansino spoke of this during a Facebook Live discussion in the weekly program “The Chasedown” and Carmela Tunay’s vlog.

“We have found that it would be best that we part ways, allow maximum growth for each other. We wish him the best providence in his new endeavor with a different team,” added Ayo.

Ayo said he recognizes the efforts that Cansino gave the squad during his time with the Tigers and as a Tiger Cub in high school.
