CAAP probes metal debris in E. Samar

The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines will still have to determine whether the metal debris found in Eastern Samar last Aug. 6 is from an aircraft, spokesperson Eric Apolonio said Sunday.

“Our AAIB (Aircraft Accident Investigation Board) will still have to investigate if the debris is from an aircraft. We cannot assume that it is a part of an aircraft because we haven’t recorded a plane crash in the recent months,” Apolonio told the Philippine News Agency.

He added that because Samar is currently on lockdown, the AAIB could not start the probe.

It would take time before our AAIB from Manila could get the LGU (local government unit) permits to go there,” he said.

Apolonio said the debris is currently under the custody of the military.

On Sunday, CAAP reported that several metal debris were found on Aug. 6 in Anuron Beach in the municipality of Mercedes, and by the shore in the municipality of Guiuan.
