Catalan hopeful that gyms will soon reopen

Rene “The Challenger” Catalan believes that his gym is now ready to accommodate his students once he is given the okay to reopen.

Catalan Fighting System has been closed since the second week of March, with access to the gym limited to only those who live there, like the Catalan brothers and their closest cohorts.

Being in the heart of the National Capital Region in Makati City, the gym certainly took a hit after COVID-19 halted normalcy in the country’s metropolitan area.

But since professional alliances like the Philippine Basketball Association and the Philippines Football League have now been given the green light to train, the 41-year-old wushu specialist hopes that combat sports will follow.

“I hope that they give us a chance to reopen soon,” Catalan said.

“If that happens, and given the chance to reopen, me and my team are prepared for those who want to get back in shape and train MMA once more.”

For “The Challenger,” he will have to stay on top of things while they reopen to the public.

Battling something invincible to the eye – like this virus – will certainly be tough, but Catalan will stay the course and follow the guidelines to a tee.

“The most important thing in handling this is discipline. We can’t see what we’re facing so we have to be really disciplined with whatever protocol the government gives us,” Catalan said.

“But I can truly say we’re ready – if they allow us to open, we’re ready.”
