The Taguig City government placed a construction site in Bonifacio Global City under ‘localized lockdown’ after six workers were tested positive for coronavirus disease while others have Zika virus, typhoid, and dengue.
“To properly care for the workers and prevent an outbreak in the area, a construction site in BGC will be placed under a localized lockdown from June 23 until July 7, based on the recommendation of the Safe City Task Force,” the city’s public information office stated in its advisory.
The local government decided to withhold the details of the construction site, the name of its developer and the affected workers “to protect their rights to privacy and avoid unnecessary and undue harm to all the parties involved.”
During the 15-day lockdown, all employees will be closely monitored, and no one will be allowed to enter or leave the construction site.
On June 18, the City’s Epidemiology and Disease Surveillance Unit (CEDSU) investigated a report of possible grouping of individuals with symptoms of fever in a construction site.
Of the 27 suspected cases, at least six construction workers have tested positive for COVID-19.
Based on the evaluation of their work environment, some workers were also tested for dengue, typhoid, and the Zika virus.
The Taguig City Police and BGC security personnel cordoned off and secured the site.
Mayor Lino Edgardo Cayetano assured that the city government had taken all the necessary measures to curb the spread of the COVID-19 virus and to ensure that the city was a safe place to live and do business in.
