The Equestrian Association of the Philippines is poised to resume activities soon.
Newly-elected EAP president Mikee Cojuangco Jaworski said the equestrian community does not have issues with social distancing.
“Pumayag ang IATF sa amin. At hindi rin naman kami puede maglapit dito sa equestrian. That’s because our sport has natural social distancing,” said Cojuangco-Jaworski.
Equestrian is among the eight outdoor sports which got clearance from the Interagency Task Force for Emerging Infectious Diseases. And the EAP has the privilege to hold outdoor activities.
Cojuangco-Jaworski said they have been conducting training activities, and technical officials’ education and programs while the country is under community quarantine protocols to control the control the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.
However, the EAP had to cancel two international meets that they were supposed to stage in the coming months because of health and safety concerns.
“We are just into accreditation of officials. We are polishing up on this,” said Cojuangco-Jaworski in an online interview.
The EAP, according to Cojuangco-Jaworski, is currently updating itself on the new policies of their international federations, and linking up with members of the Southeast Asian Federation at this time.
Cojuangco-Jaworski, who is the Philippine representative to the International Olympic Committee, came aboard as the new president following polls that were held last March 10.
She took over from his father, long-time head, and former Philippine Olympic Committee president Jose “Peping” Cojuangco Jr.
The elder Cojuangco stepped down as the president during the polls. But he stayed on as a board member.
Many former athletes were named to the new board, Xavier Virata, who was voted to fill the seat of Vice President.
Another former athlete Michelle Barrera, is the new secretary-general. Barrera once competed in the World Cup finals, and in the Busan Asian Games.
Other former athletes who are now directors are Janine Felix, Karen Concepcion and Gaby Herbosa.
