Typhoon Ambo has delayed repatriation efforts of Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) as 20 cruise ships fled Manila Bay due to the typhoon.
Some 20 cruise ships with some 8, 000 Filipino seafarers on board fled Manila Bay to prevent any mishaps on the ships due to strong winds and waves brought by the typhoon, according to PCG officials.
The 8,000 OFWs on board 20 cruise ships whose Covid Tests have been reported by the Philippine Coast Guard as negative were unable to go ashore this weekend as the threat of Typhoon Ambo forced the ships to leave Manila Bay to prevent any mishaps.
The Philippine Coast Guard was in the process of taking the seafarers to South Harbor on ship tenders last Friday but strong winds and heavy rains in Manila stopped the evacuation efforts of the Coast Guard and the ship captains of the 20 cruise ships ordered their anchors lifted and all the ships headed out to the waters off the coasts of Bataan and Cavite for safety.
