The Supreme Court has considered cyber security threats as the new enemy as the judiciary transitioned to a so-called “new normal” with the use of new technologies in court proceedings and processes arising from the coronavirus pandemic.

In his speech during the virtual seminar participated by more than 6,000 judges, court personnel and other stakeholders, Chief Justice Diosdado Peralta stressed the need for all members of the judiciary to be prepared to tackle cyber security threats as it adapts the use of new technologies just to keep the wheels of justice rolling amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to Peralta, the webinar was “the first event of its kind that focuses on ushering the cyber security culture in the Philippine Judiciary” during the prevailing public health emergency.

“Health professionals observe good personal hygiene to protect ourselves from this virulent virus, I likewise encourage everyone to practice proper cyber hygiene to protect ourselves from being infected with computer viruses, worms, and other malwares,” Chief Justice Peralta said, in his message.

“Just like our health professionals, out frontliners during the COVID-19 crisis, we are also frontliners in the defense against cyber threat,” the chief magistrate added.
