SoKor fugitive sent back home

Immigration officers at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport intercepted a South Korean fugitive wanted by authorities in his country for taking hostage and robbing a compatriot more than a year ago.

The Korean, identified as Lee Myungseok, was intercepted as he attempted to board a Korean Airlines flight bound for Incheon, South Korea.

BI Port operations chief Grifton Medina said Lee had just presented himself for processing at the BI departure counter when the immigration officer saw that the latter’s name was in the Interpol’s list of wanted international suspects.

According to BI Intelligence Chief Fortunato Manahan, Jr., they immediately contacted Korean authorities about the case, upon endorsement of the primary immigration officers.

“We immediately informed our Korean counterparts about his travel. He was allowed to board his flight, and was subsequently arrested at the Incheon airport where Korean policemen were waiting for him,” Manahan said..
