Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra on Friday ordered the Presidential Task Force on Media Security to investigate the killing of radio broadcaster Cornelio Pepino in Dumaguete City last Tuesday, May 5.

Guevarra, chairman of the PTFoMS, said he issued the instruction after learning about the death of 48-year-old Cornelio, a reporter-anchorman of radio dyMD Energy FM, and host of the commentary radio program “Pukpokin Mo Baby.”

“I have given instructions to the Presidential Task Force on Media Security to probe this latest incident,” Guevarra said in a text message.

Although the Philippine National Police has already began investigating the crime, the Justice Secretary hinted out the possibility that he would direct the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to do a separate probe on the killing.

“If necessary, I will also direct the NBI to render assistance to the task force or conduct a parallel investigation,” he said.
