BAP commits services amid extension of ECQ

The Bankers Association of the Philippines, composed of universal and commercial banks in the country, has committed continued banking services amid the extension of the enhanced community quarantine in major areas of Luzon until May 15, 2020.

The BAP said in a statement the industry would continue to provide unhampered banking services and ensure the industry’s resiliency and cooperation as some areas in Luzon go into another two weeks of extended quarantine to effectively contain the spread of coronavirus disease 2019.

“Further to this, the banks have enhanced their operations to adapt to this new normal. The public is likewise reminded to ensure that their information is protected against cybercrime that can proliferate during this time,” BAP said.

While the banking sector continues to provide critical support to the economy and the general public, BAP said efforts were now geared towards economic recovery of the country.

“The BAP is now working closely and collaborating with the regulators and legislators to ensure liquidity and rehabilitation of industries severely affected by the COVID19 health crisis,” it said.
