The schedule of Season 83 of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines will be affected by the extension of the enhanced community quarantine to May 15 in Metro Manila, Central Luzon, Calabarzon and “all other high risk” provinces in Luzon.
UAAP Executive Director Atty. Rene Saguisag said this as the league is about to turn over its hosting rights to De La Salle University.
Saguisag added that adjustments will be made, now that the school opening for the coming school-year will most likely be pushed back.
At the moment, Saguisag said they don’t know yet if Season 83 will be on schedule in September, or if it will be delayed until October.
“It will all depend on the situation and on what the government will decide,” added Saguisag.
Earlier, Season 82 was cancelled President Rodrigo Duterte extended the enhanced community quarantine imposed on the country until April 30, 2020.
The extension of the ECQ resulted in classes and other school activities remaining suspended until the third week of May.
Since the quarantine began last March, none of Season 82’s collegiate events were able to resume, like volleyball and football.
Baseball, softball, athletics, lawn tennis and 3×3 basketball never had the chance to have an opening game.
The league will address the repercussions of the further extension of the ECQ once the coronavirus pandemic has been put under control.
