The National Water Resources Board approved the allocation of 46 cubic meters of water per second (CMS) to the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) for the next two months to ensure water is available for hygienic purposes to prevent the spread of the COVID virus.

This is the second time since March that the water board increased the allocation to MWSS from 42 CMS to 46 CMS to sustain the anticipated high water demand in Metro Manila due to COVID-19.

The board also initially allocated 15 CMS for irrigation to farmlands in the southern part of Bulacan in the month of June. The higher supply will support the government’s food security program by sustaining farm production while under the enhanced community quarantine.

The board assured enough water supply from Angat dam until the onset of rainy season in June.

The water level in the dam as of April 21, 2020 stood at 192.25 meters, or 12.25 meters above the minimum operating level of 180 meters. The current level is more than eight meters higher year-on-year.
