Volleyball star Cherry Ann Rondina is raising funds to help frontliners in their efforts to combat the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.
The 23-year-old beach volleyball player is selling some of her jerseys and shoes which she used while playing for University of Santo Tomas in college.
Rondina, also known as Sisi, is a member of the national women’s team which won bronze at the 2019 Southeast Asian Games. She is raising funds for personnel manning the checkpoints and doing tests for Barangay Luz in Cebu City.
Barangay Luz was placed under “community lockdown” after recording 82 cases of the coronavirus (Covid-19) last Friday.
Two barangays are now in the same situation after Sitio Zapatera was also closed down.
Sitio Zapatera is considered the epicenter of the virus outbreak in the city.
“This is for the frontliners who are guarding Barangay Luz. Kapwa ko Cebuano,” said Rondina, who grew up in Compostela, Cebu, in a statement on Twitter.
Rondina currently plays for the Creamline beach volleyball team.
She started representing the University of Santo Tomas in UAAP Season 77, playing in beach volleyball where she won the championship and bagged the MVP award. She debuted in indoor volleyball in UAAP Season 77.
After a disappointing season 78, Rondina reclaimed the UAAP Season 79 Beach Volleyball title with her new partner, Jem Nicole Gutierrez. She also bagged her second Most Valuable Player Award.
In UAAP Season 81, Rondina and rookie Baby Love Barbon earned UST’s 6th Beach Volleyball Championship title, making it the winningest team in the UAAP Beach Volleyball Tournament. Rondina got her 4th Most Valuable Player Award.
