Cycling Olympian dies

Olympian Domingo Villanueva passed away following a heart attack yesterday morning in Catbalogan, Samar.

Villanueva, 55, was a former member of the national cycling team.

He saw action in the 1988 and the 1992 Summer Olympics, before retiring for good.

Family members are now seeking help on ways to get to their family home in Samar to attend his wake, according to his daughter Isaack.

Villanueva is survived by his wife Rosalina and two children.

Two stints in the Southeast Asian Games allowed him to take home a pair of gold medals in the men's road race and individual time trial.

Memorable stints in the Marlboro Tour also punctuated his colorful career in cycling.
