All facilities under the care of the Philippine Sports Commission will be closed down for at least a month starting March 14 (Saturday).
Officials of the PSC said this on Friday, following the pronouncements made by President Rodrigo Duterte on the government’s measures to contain the spread of COVID-19 pandemic.
The lifting of the so-called community quarantine is said to take place after a month.
Access is limited to the skeletal force assigned by the agency, according to the PSC announcement.
For now, no training will be allowed inside the premises.
“The agency leaves it to the discretion of the national sports associations to decide if they will continue to train,” said agency officials.
The agency had backtracked on its earlier plans to put the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Manila and Philsports Complex in Pasig will be placed on “restricted access..
And this was expected to go on for the next one month to ensure the safety of its national athletes, employees and the public.
The decision to close the facilities is in compliance with precautions being done in the light of the ongoing public health emergency concerning the coronavirus pandemic.
“We have to be pro-active in this situation and take these hard decisions for the safety of our athletes and employees,” said Philippine Sports Commission chairman William Ramirez, following a Management Committee meeting recently.
