In the new digital series, actress Roxanne Barcelo shares a steamy scene with former beauty queen Ann Colis. The two locked lips in one of the episodes that Roxanne could only describe as something she has not done before.
“Ann is so sexy and very attractive. But you all know what my preference is,” was the singer-actress’s short response when asked how Ann’s lips felt like. Then, she started humming Katy Perry’s hit song “I Kissed A Girl” but didn’t continue the lyric that says “And I like it.”
“It was strange. Aware naman kayo sa preference ko. I really said to myself that I’m just portraying a character,” she further explained.
“It’s my first time to do something like this. So, I had to think before saying yes to this project. As in from the start to finish I was really on my toes the whole time. More than feeling nervous, it’s more of unsure ako like how to do it. I had so many questions before doing the project,” she related.
At the press conference for the digital series, Roxanne shares what her role is all about and how daring her character is.
“My character defies the societal boundaries of love and comes to terms with her sexuality as she is forced to choose between an ex-boyfriend and a confident lesbian woman,” Roxanne said.
Director Benedict Mique wanted to make fluid, a very “inclusive term in the LGBT community,” be understood by a wider audience.
“Sexual fluidity is a very inclusive term. Some people may experience change in their sexual orientation. It happens in real life,” Mique told Manila Standard during the press conference for Fluid, streaming on iWant March 13.
“In Fluid, the series, we are exploring that. It’s a very exciting series, it’s funny. It will make you cry and fall in love. The premise of the film is new to mainstream media but we don’t just focus on that. There’s a family aspect. I think parents and children should watch it because marami silang matutunan. Basically the film is about acceptance. That’s the message that the series wanted to share with the viewers,” Mique added.
Fluid follows Mitch (Roxanne) and her journey to self-discovery that begins after her breakup with her cheating ex-boyfriend Jacob (Joross Gamboa).
Despite never having been in a relationship with a woman before, Mitch agrees to date women upon the suggestion and encouragement of her friends.
Though unsuccessful at first, she eventually meets George (Ann), an out-and-proud, confident lesbian who challenges Mitch to get away from her comfort zone. Mitch agrees to go on dates with George, and finds comfort and support in her.
When their relationship seems to be progressing nicely, Jacob comes back to ask for forgiveness and woo her back.
Fluid is produced by Lonewolf Films and written by Carlo Baltazar Ventura and Benedict Mique. Its cast also include Janice de Belen, Al Tantay, Zar Donato, J-Mee Kantayag, and Emmanuelle Vera. Episodes 2 to 4 drops on March 16.
