PCUP hits LGUs for failure to help victims of evictions

The Presidential Commission on Urban Poor on Monday hit local government units for their failure to extend assistance to those affected by demolitions or evictions.

Alvin Feliciano, PCUP chairman and chief executive officer, lamented that several local officials were stubborn and would not provide assistance to those in need under the Urban Development and Housing Act.

“We are filing appropriate charges against erring local officials,” he said but stopped short of saying when they would file the charges.

“It is high time that we make local government culpable,” he added.

He said he would file administrative charges against local officials who would fail to provide victims of demolitions or evictions with relocation, and financial and livelihood assistance.

He said he would not allow any demolition of eviction without proper relocation.

He said he is determined to hold erring officials culpable.

“The commission will do everything to ensure the welfare of every Filipino,” he noted.
