Stefan Stojacic, who played for Serbia when it won the Fiba 3×3 World Cup for the third straight time in 2018 when the Philippines hosted the tournament, is the new head coach of the national team.
Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas President Al Panlilio said this yesterday when he announced the four players seeing action for the Philippines in the FIBA 3×3 Olympic Qualifying Tournament.
The recommendation was led by the SBP Selection Committee, chaired by Executive Director Sonny Barrios, with coaches Jong Uichico, Pat Aquino, Ronnie Magsanoc and Eric Altamirano as members.
“It is an honor for the Philippines to be with the top 20 countries vying for seats at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. We ask our countrymen to rally behind our team in its quest to be part of the Olympiad,” said Panlilio.
Stojacic, who replaced Magsanoc, started handling the national pool last December when he held a training camp.
Making it to the national squad are cagers Joshua Eugene Munzon, Alvin Pasaol, Moala Tautuaa and Jaymar Perez.
Munzon and Pasaol gained entry for having gained rankings for playing in local tournaments in the Philippines and abroad.
Tautuaa and Perez are chosen from the recommendations of the Philippine Basketball Association.
The OQT is set from March 18 to 22, 2020 in Bengaluru, India.
There are 20 teams joining in the four pools, which is composed of five teams each.
The top two teams from each pool will advance to the playoffs and the top three finishers will qualify to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
