QC forms task force for 2nd road clearing

Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte has created a new task force for the second round of road clearing operations that kicked off Monday as mandated by the Department of the Interior and Local Government.

Belmonte issued Executive Order No. 9 Series, creating the Quezon City Task Force Road Clearing 2.0 under the Office of the Mayor.

“We will pursue what we have already started last year,” she said.

The order stemmed from DILG’s Memorandum Circular No. 2020-27, mandating the continued implementation of President Rodrigo Duterte’s directive to clear roads of illegal obstructions and ensure efforts to maintain the cleared roads are sustained.

With her latest directive, Belmonte urged local residents to cooperate with the city government to clear roads from different kinds of obstructions.

Aside from posting it on the city’s official Facebook page, residents can also report abusive traffic enforcers via Hotline 122.

Under Belmonte’s order, she will head the task force with the chief of staff and assistant city administrator for operations as vice chairpersons.

Meanwhile, Toro Hills Elementary School in Project 8, Quezon City was chosen as beneficiary of the Bureau of Plant Industry Crop Research and Production Support Division in partnership with the Los Baños Crop Research and Production Support Division.

The BPI-Manila personnel selected three schools in each division for their beneficiaries. Toro Hills joined Camp Crame and San Gabriel as the project’s recipients among the 95 schools in Quezon City.

To realized the BPI Agriculture Office program, the bureau also conducted extensive training to help EPP Teachers donate their start-up Plants to School Projects to their schools.

Roger S. Tamondong, EPP Education Program Supervisor and Division Coordinator, urged Toro Hills to promote food and nutrition security and encouraged students, parents, as well as students teachers to grow and consume healthy vegetables.

At the bench marking conducted at Holy Spirit Elementary School and San Gabriel Elementary School, Mrs. Fridita S. Galilee, project coordinator, suggested having “Magic Spots” for all grade levels.

Many schools in Quezon City have established vegetable gardens in their schools and have taught students to support the in-school gardening program, she added.
