San Miguel Corp. officials said the technical team of SMC Infrastructure went to the site after the fire was put under control and discovered the damage it made.

While the blaze affected 300 meters of the project, “the full extent of damage and its impact to the construction, has yet to be determined,”  the company added.

SMC vowed to extend assistance to the families whose houses were razed by the fire.

“We are ready to provide assistance to anyone directly affected by the incident,” it said.

The fire broke out at 10:38 a.m. at Barangay 865 in Pandacan.

Due to its intensity, the fire reached Task Force Bravo barely 30 minutes after the first alarm was raised.

The fire caused the collapse of a section of the Skyway Stage 3 project that was under construction.  The damage to the property was placed at P15 million, the Manila Fire District said.

In a report, Fire Superintendent Roberto Samillano Jr., deputy fire marshal of the Manila Fire District, gave  the damage estimate at the industrial compound of the San Miguel Yamamura Plastic Plant Corp.—a manufacturer of plastic containers and packaging.

The fire reportedly started from a stack file of plastic pallets placed at the open space under the Skyway project, Samillano added.

There were no reported fatalities nor injuries from the fire.

The blaze broke out at 10:36 a.m., reached Task Force Bravo past 11 a.m., and was controlled at 1:52 p.m., according to the Bureau of Fire Protection.

DPWH Secretary Mark Villar said that the completion date for the Skyway Stage 3 might be pushed back due to the Saturday morning fire that razed a warehouse in Manila.

Villar said that the target date for the Skyway’s completion was the second quarter of 2020, between April and May.

“Pero mukhang baka, dahil sa sunog… mukhang baka ma-push back ang mga delivery date ng skyway,” he said.

But in a statement, concessionaire San Miguel Corporation (SMC) said it will rebuild the damaged portion of the Skyway “at the soonest possible time, with the least delay on the projected completion.”

The fire that hit a San Miguel-owned warehouse in Pandacan caused a portion of the skyway to collapse.
