Batang Maynila won the Metro League women’s volleyball title last Tuesday, beating Kyusi@80, 25-17, 23-25, 25-7, and 25-11 in the winner-take-all championship game held at San Andres Sports Complex.

Tournament MVP Hilary Caparas of Batang Maynila receives her trophy and prizes from Metro Manila Sports Fest chairman and tournament director Bonnie Tan and his deputy Fidel Mangonon III.

The Batang Maynila ladies of Mayor Isko Moreno won the title via a historic 10-game sweep of the tournament exclusively for LGU city hall employees which was fully backed by the Metro Manila Development Authority and the Philippine Basketball Association and presented by Barangay 143.

Hilary Caparas led Batang Maynila in the title game with her eight attacks, 12 aces, and a block, finishing with a 21-point total which led to her being named Most Valuable Player of the tournament which has SMS Global Technologies, Inc. as official livestream and technology partner, Spalding as official ball, Team Rebel Sports as official outfitter, PLDT as official internet service provider and Manila Bulletin as media partner.

Batang Maynila stamped its dominance right from the opening set via a 7-2 headstart and a 25-17 first set triumph but Kyusi@80 surprised the former with a close 25-23 in the second set, the only time Batang Maynila lost a set in the entire tournament which has Synergy 88, World Balance, Excellent Noodles and San Miguel Corporation as major sponsors and Gerry’s Grill, Summit Water, Alcoplus, Nature’s Spring and Goodfellow as its other supporters.

The host city then duplicated its 7-2 start in the third canto and capitalized on Kyusi@80's poor reception, collecting nine aces to shift the momentum back to its side en route to a third set win before Caparas came up with a serving show in the fourth set via four straight aces for an 10-3 start and Batang Maynila simply coasted along the rest of the way for the title win.

In the first game, Makabagong San Juan overcame an opening period setback to win over the Taguig Lady Generals in four sets, 25-27,  25-20, 25-11, and 25-15 in the battle for third place.
