In line with the government’s campaign against criminality, the National Bureau of Investigation arrested two suspects and seized P68 million worth of shabu intended for sale in Cavite City.
NBI Director Dante Gierran identified the suspects as Reynaldo Cordero and Irene Ilaya Biazon, both residents of Maricaban, Pasay City.
The confiscated shabu has an estimated value of P68 million.
The vehicle used by the suspects to transport illegal drugs was likewise seized.
“Last Sunday we received information from our informant that a deal of shabu was made with somebody from inside the Bilibid,” said NBI Mimaropa Chief Rommel Vallejo, referring to the latest drug operation said.
The suspects were later turned over to the NBI-Forensic Chemistry Division for drug testing and post-processing procedures at NBI-NCR for properly booking, photographed and medical examination.
The seized illegal drugs were likewise turned over to the FCD for forensic examination.
The NBI said suspects Cordero and Biazon were on board a red 2001 Mitsubishi Lancer with plate number WTY 942 along Panapaan 4, Bacoor City, when they were apprehended by the NBI.
The suspects were also charged for Violation of Republic Act 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002) as amended.
Gierran said that on Jan. 27, 2020, an intelligence report was received by NBI-MIMAROPA together with an NBI-NCR relative to a certain “Kim group” regarding the alleged drug trafficker who is operating within Metro Manila and nearby provinces.
Gierran said that based on said information, Kim’s group will be transporting a huge volume of shabu somewhere in Bacoor and Imus Cavite.
Under strict orders of Gierran and Deputy Director for Regional Operations Antonio Pagatpat, at around 6:30 pm of the same date, operatives of NBI-MIMAROPA and NBI-NCR positioned themselves in Brgy. Lotus Bukid, Panapaan 4, Bacoor City where “Kim’s” group” is believed to be passing.
After a few minutes, a red Mitsubishi Lancer appeared as described by the informant and was immediately blocked by the NBI operatives.
The suspects were then apprehended and were properly appraised of their constitutional rights.
Seized from suspects’ possession was a sack inside the vehicle’s spare tire compartment which contains 10 plastic bags of white crystalline substance, placed inside a Chinese Tea Pack, believed to be methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu, with a volume of more than 10 kilograms, worth P68 million.
