The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) gathers known sports specialists and educators for a set of lecture-workshops in the 2020 National Sports Summit on February 27 to 28 at the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City.
In line with the theme, “Creating a clear vision of Philippine Sports,” the PSC aims to put into perspective the present status of sports in our country and chart the path to be pursued to achieve excellence through this event.
Around 500 participants from different government agencies, private sector, national sports associations (NSAs), collegiate coaches and athletes from the UAAP, NCAA, and NCRAA and other stakeholders are set to attend the largest nationwide sports summit this year.
“This will be the second National Sports Summit of this scale since 1992 so we want it to be as inclusive as we can,” said PSC Chairman William Ramirez.
Dr. T.J. Rosandich, President and CEO of the United States Sports Academy (USSA) will give a lecture on Sports Success from a first world perspective.
Leading the institution founded by the late Thomas Rosandich in 1972, USSA has brought their sports programs to over 60 countries to date.
Dr. T.J. Rosandich’s sharing of his expertise is seen as a means to help local coaches, instructors, and sports managers in following the success of sports from a First World perspective.
“In order to realize this, it is imperative for us to work with experienced people in the field to educate us about inclusive, grounded, and scientific measures vital in our production of an effective sports plan,” said Ramirez.
The Department of Education (DepEd) is also set to give discussions about the status of sports in schools led by Undersecretary Atty. Revsee Escobedo.
Davao del Norte Youth and Sports Development Head Giovanni Gulanes will also share the secret to the success of their sports program in their LGU.
Other topics to be discussed for the two-day workshop are Sports Governance and Philippine Legislation to be facilitated by PSC’s Deputy Executive Director Atty. Guillermo Iroy, the Value of Sports Marketing to be conducted by Prof. Tessa Jasminez of the University of the Philippines Diliman, high-performance sports, and learnings from sports in the ASEAN region.
Prior to the mentioned lecture-workshops, the Philippine Olympic Committee, Department of Education, Commission on Higher Education, and the Department of Interior and Local Government are also delivering their status reports of Philippine sports.
The National Sports Summit 2020 will also be graced by House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano as the keynote speaker on its opening on February 27.
The Philippine Sports Commission, headed by Chairman William Ramirez and its Commissioners will lead the two-day sports convention.
