Teen sensation Alexandra Eala outplayed China’s Na Dong, 6-2, 6-1, yesterday in the second round of the 2020 AGL Loy Yang Traralgon Junior International Tennis Tournament in Victoria, Australia.
The fourteen-year-old Eala went on to advance to the third round against Russian netter Elina Avanesyan.
Avanesyan fought off Darja Vidmanova of the Czech Republic, 6-1, 6-2, to get a chance to meet Eala.
Eala is coached Daniel Gomez of the Rafa Nadal Academy. He watched her closely as she pulled off a 6-1, 6-2 win over Hungarian netter Amarisa Toth in the first round.
In the doubles, Eala and partner Priska Nugroho of Indonesia prevailed over Australians Olivia Galecki and Amy Stevens, 6-2, 7-5.
Seeded fourth in the tournament, Eala is preparing for her stint in the Australian Open.
Eala is the no. 9 ranked junior in the world.
Her victory came after missing a days’ practice, and after Australian officials suspended practice on Wednesday.
Officials have warned that smoke and haze from regional wildfires have affected the playing conditions of the tournament early this week.
