Solon pushes teacher pay increase in new SY

A House leader on Saturday pushed for the passage of measures aimed at improving the welfare of Filipino educators ahead of the opening of the new school year.

House Assistant Majority Floor Leader and Quezon City Rep. Patrick Michael Vargas called for the swift approval of House Bills 5082, 5083, and 5085, which seek higher salaries, permanent positions for volunteer teachers, and incentives for those assigned to remote areas.

Under House Bill 5082, Vargas proposed raising the minimum salary grade of public school teachers from P27,000 to P34,421, citing the rising cost of living.

House Bill 5083 seeks to create permanent positions for volunteer teachers who have rendered at least five years of continuous service, while House Bill 5085 proposes monthly incentives for teachers assigned outside their home areas. Maricel V. Cruz

“When we care for our teachers, we are indirectly caring for our children,” Vargas said, adding that improving teachers’ welfare would help strengthen the country’s education system.
