2025 Wrapped: A timeline of major stories

Timeline of major stories of 2025.

• January 13, 2025. Over 1.5 million members of the Iglesia ni Cristo gathered at the Quirino Grandstand in Manila’s Rizal Park to support President Ferdinand R. Marcos’ stance against the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte.

• February 5, 2025. The House of Representatives voted to impeach the Vice President on charges of culpable violation of the Constitution, betrayal of public trust, graft of corruption, and other high crimes.

• March 11, 2025. Former President Rodrigo Duterte is arrested upon arrival at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport from Hong Kong on the basis of a warrant issued by the International Criminal Court for alleged crimes against humanity. He is then transported to The Hague in the Netherlands.

• May 12, 2025. The ruling alliance won five of the 12 seats at stake, while the Duterte backed slate won 5 seats including the pole position while two former senators who ran as independent bets took the remaining Senate spots.

• June 10, 2025. The Senate, voting 18-5, returns the impeachment complaint against the Vice President to the House of Representatives.

• July 25, 2025, the Supreme Court ruled that the impeachment complaint against the vice president was unconstitutional, thus barring any attempt to file a case against Duterte until February 6, 2026.

• July 28, 2025. President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. orders an investigation into alleged corruption in flood control projects during his 4th State of the Nation Address (SONA).

• Aug. 11 2025. President Marcos, Jr. discloses the names of 15 contractors who bagged P100 billion worth of flood control projects since 2022. Among them were companies that purportedly had links to Ako Bicol partylist Rep. Zaldy Co.

• Sept. 1, 2025. Public Works Secretary Manuel Bonoan resigns as DPWH Secretary. Newly-appointed  Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon ordered the courtesy resignations of officials in his agency, which included undersecretaries, assistant secretaries, division heads, and district engineers nationwide.

• Sept. 8, 2025. Senate President Chiz Escudero is ousted and replaced by Sen. Tito Sotto.

• Sept. 11, 2025. President Marcos, Jr. creates the Independent Commission for Infrastructure.

• Sept. 17, 2025. House Speaker Martin Romualdez resigns his post.

• Sept. 21, 2025. Over a million protesters join anti-corruption rallies in Metro Manila.

• Sept. 30 2025. A magnitude 6.9 earthquake rocked Bogo City, in the island of Cebu, killing at least 79 people, injuring over a 1,000 others and damaging millions of pesos in public and private properties.

• October 10, 2025. A doublet earthquake measuring 7.4 and 6.7-6.8 struck Davao Oriental, killing at least 10 people, and injuring over a thousand others.

• Nov. 5, 2025. Typhoon Tino swept through central Philippines, killing at least 85 people and damaging millions in infrastructure and agriculture.

• Nov. 14, 2025. Former DPWH Usec. Romeo Bernardo tags former Senators Bong Revilla and Nancy Binay, Senators Chiz Escudero and Jinggoy Estrada, Rep. Zaldy Co, former Rep. Mitch Cajayon Uy, and former DPWH Sec. Manuel Bonoan, and Ex-Usec. Cathy Cabral as involved in the flood control anomalies.

Former Rep. Co releases a five-minute video statement admitting he facilitated budget insertions and accused the President and former House Speaker of receiving kickbacks.

• Nov. 17, 2025. Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin and Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman resign.

• Nov. 18, 2025. The Office of the Ombudsman filed the first batch of cases against former Ako Bicol party-list Rep. Elizaldy “Zaldy” Co and several former officials of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) over alleged anomalous flood control projects in Oriental Mindoro before the Sandiganbayan.

• Dec. 18, 2025. The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) arrested controversial contractor Cezarah “Sarah” Discaya on graft and malversation charges filed against her and nine others by the Office of the Ombudsman for an alleged ghost P96.5-million flood control project in Jose Abad Santos, Davao Occidental,

• Dec. 19, 2025. Former DPWH Usec. Catalina Cabral is found dead after an alleged fall from Kennon Road, in Tuba, Benguet.

• Dec. 29, 2025. The Senate and the House ratify the P6.793-trillion national budget—the largest ever in the country’s history.
