FFCCCII hopes for unity, economic renewal in 2026

The Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. (FFCCCII) led by its president Victor Lim issued a New Year message, extending sincere blessings to Filipino-Chinese communities.

He reflected on the challenges faced by the Philippine economy in the third quarter of 2025, noting that GDP growth dropped to 4 percent, marking the lowest figure in four years.

He attributed the decline to several factors, including scandals affecting government spending on infrastructure projects, slowing consumption and extreme weather events like typhoons.

While he anticipates a rebound in the economy in the fourth quarter, he cautioned that inflation pressures and uncertainties in foreign trade continue to loom.

Looking ahead to 2026, Lim sees the Philippines as the second-fastest-growing economy in ASEAN, led by strong internal demand, robust overseas remittances and fiscal stimulus.

He identified the digital economy and renewable energy as emerging growth sectors.

He acknowledged that challenges remain, including a weak manufacturing base, limited financial capacity, high dependence on foreign countries, and vulnerability to international trade and geopolitical tensions.

Lim called on all Filipinos to work together to navigate these challenges.

He noted that the Philippines will serve as the ASEAN chair in 2026, an opportunity he believes will drive economic revitalization and social prosperity.

He said the Philippine government is committed to translating the ASEAN integrity agenda into business growth and ensuring inclusive opportunities for all.

Reflecting on his nine-month tenure as FFCCCII president, Lim described his experiences as a rich and rewarding journey.

He expressed gratitude for the honor of serving the public and reported on key achievements, including promoting various FFCCCII projects focused on Filipino-Chinese education, free medication, charity initiatives and fostering closer coordination with the Philippine government on national building and social peace.

He reaffirmed his commitment to fighting for the legal rights and interests of the Filipino-Chinese community while strengthening the bond between the Philippines and China.

Lim appealed to the Filipino-Chinese community for continued support, particularly from the media, to help FFCCCII enhance its service.

He reiterated his best wishes for the New Year, hoping for a year of unity and progress for the Philippines.
