DOTr to start building 3 new EDSA Busway stations in 2026

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) said Tuesday it will begin construction on three new EDSA Busway stations in 2026 to improve the efficiency and accessibility of the capital’s dedicated bus lane system.

The new stations will be located in Cubao, Magallanes and the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX).

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. directed the agency to enhance the busway’s time and motion to encourage more commuters to utilize public transport over private vehicles.

DOTr Road Infrastructure Undersecretary Mark Steven Pastor said the contract for the project was awarded this month. Construction is scheduled to commence in the first quarter of 2026 and reach completion by the fourth quarter of the same year.

“We will have 3 new stations on the EDSA Busway. These will be in Cubao, Magallanes and PITX because we want to strengthen and speed up our time and motion here on EDSA when we travel via public transportation,” Pastor said in a radio interview.

The modernization efforts also include the inauguration of the new Kamuning Station in the first quarter of 2026. The facility features dedicated elevators and escalators designed to assist persons with disabilities, senior citizens and pregnant women.

Pastor said the Kamuning site has ongoing construction for a new footbridge that is separate from the MRT-3 rail system to ensure smoother transfers for bus passengers.

While the specific cost of the three new stations was not detailed in the initial announcement, the project remains a central part of the government’s infrastructure priority list to decongest the main 23.8-kilometer artery of Metro Manila.
