A SLIM majority (54 percent) of Filipino adults support the immediate passage of a law banning political dynasties, according to a survey conducted by Pulse Asia Research Inc.
The survey results indicate that while a slight majority favors the legislation, a significant portion—33 percent of Filipino adults—somewhat agree with the urgent need for a law against political dynasties.
Support for the immediate passage of such a law varies by region, with strong backing in Metro Manila (69 percent) and in the rest of Luzon and the Visayas (59 percent). In contrast, Mindanao showed the lowest support, with only 34 percent in favor.
Earlier this month, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. made a rare appeal to Congress, urging lawmakers to prioritize the passage of a law prohibiting political dynasties.
The appeal comes amid ongoing investigations into alleged corruption in flood control and other infrastructure projects, which have sparked protests demanding accountability and government reforms.
The survey also revealed that more than half of the adult population (52 percent) agrees that Congress should promptly create a fully empowered Independent Commission Against Infrastructure Corruption (ICAIC).
This sentiment is notably stronger in Metro Manila (67 percent) and the Visayas (61 percent), while the rest of Luzon and Min-danao registered lower support at 52 percent and 35 percent, respectively.
Pulse Asia also noted that the President established an Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) to investigate a flood control scandal.
However, some lawmakers are pushing for a more empowered body, which they propose to call the ICAIC, to ensure the inde-pendence of the investigation.
The face-to-face survey was conducted from December 12 to 15 among 1,200 respondents aged 18 and above, with a margin of error of ±2.98 percent at the 95 percent confidence level.
