THERE is no holiday break for Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) chairman Patrick “Pató” Gregorio as the agency presses ahead with extensive renovations at key government-owned sports facilities, including the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex (RMSC) in Manila and the Philsports facilities at the Ultra in Pasig City.
Construction work continues round-the-clock as the PSC targets a renewed and modernized RMSC by 2026, part of a broader effort to provide improved training environments for national and grassroots athletes.
Gregorio, together with his monitoring team, has been conducting regular site inspections to ensure that projects remain on schedule and meet required standards.
The ongoing upgrades are being spearheaded by the PSC Sports Facilities Division Core, led by Division Chief Julia Llanto, with Engineering and Maintenance Head Engr. Vicky Moya is overseeing technical and structural improvements.
Recent site visits covered several major venues within the RMSC, including the Tennis Center, Baseball Stadium, Football and Track Oval Stadium, Ninoy Aquino Stadium, Aquatics Center, Rizal Memorial Coliseum, and the PSC Administrative Building.
Gregorio emphasized that enhancing sports infrastructure remains one of his key priorities and a legacy he hopes to leave as head of the country’s sports agency.
He reiterated his commitment to delivering better training facilities that will support the development of grassroots athletes while meeting the needs of current national team members.
Once completed, the upgrades are expected to significantly improve the overall experience for athletes, spectators, and other stakeholders.
The revitalized Rizal Memorial Sports Complex is being positioned to strengthen its standing as one of the country’s most iconic sporting venues, capable of hosting high-level international competitions, as well as collegiate and grassroots events in the years ahead.
